How to read this

The vertical distance between two lines is the number of stories in that state. Bands should stay roughly parallel, indicating that work is flowing steadily.

  • Active band widening? Work in progress is growing. Stories are starting faster than they finish. Consider finishing something before starting something new.
  • Deployed band widening? Code is piling up in production without being released. A release decision may be stalling.
  • Planned band widening? Stories are being created faster than the team picks them up. Normal during planning; worth noticing if it persists.
  • Flat top line? No new stories being created. The team is working through existing scope.
